The Name of This Book is Secret by Pseudonymous Bosch

Summary

The Name of This Book is Secret is the first in a five book series. The book follows 11 year old protagonists Cass and Max Ernest as they investigate the death of a local magician. During their investigation, one of their classmates disappears. This leads the two friends to the lair of the mysterious group, the Midnight Sun. Throughout the rest of the series, Cass and Max Ernest learn more about The Midnight Sun’s suspicious goals towards discovering “The Secret.” If you would like to read a full plot summary, you can click on this link here https://www.supersummary.com/the-name-of-this-book-is-secret/summary/ But be warned, this link contains SPOILERS.

Things I did not like

Unfortunately, the book briefly condones lying to your parents. (Page 50) I would just like to give a disclaimer that “the author of this article does NOT agree with lying to your parents.” However, it’s relevant to the plot and the book would end without it. I would also like to note that reading this book in sixth grade did not entice me to start lying to my parents.

Things I do like

I LOVE the narration in this book. Occasionally the narrator switches to the second person to address the reader. The book is full of witty humor and even the chapter titles are creative (Ie: Chapter 1 and a half) In addition, I also like that every book of the series has an appendix with activities like making a compass in a bowl, Cass’ trail mix recipe and The Bergamo Brother’s card trick.

Overall Rating

Everything considered, I would give this book 9/10 points.
